Aprašymas

This is an original-spelling, critical edition of The Fift Booke of Amadis de Gaule. The fifth volume of the Iberian Amadis cycle, Las Sergas de Esplandián, was composed in Spanish by Garci Rodríguez de Montalvo and first printed in 1510. It was later translated into French by Nicolas de Herberay des Essarts as Le Cinqiesme Livre d'Amadis de Gaule (1544), which served as the source text for the English translation, most likely produced by Anthony Munday. This volume presents the sixteenth-century English Amadis book V, first published in 1598 and made available here for the first time since it was reedited in 1664. The editorial approach followed aims to reconstruct authorial intention as closely as possible from the surviving textual witnesses, while documenting all editorial interventions in the textual apparatus.
